Worship

Sunday Morning Worship at 10:00 am

The Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon welcomes persons of all ages, races, social and economic circumstances, sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions, abilities and church backgrounds to participate in the life and ministry of our church.

What to Expect

Worship is at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary and online via livestream. We strive to be a progressive community where worship is dynamic and extends beyond Sunday morning and the walls of our sanctuary. We ground ourselves in the still speaking words of scripture, and progressive theology and liturgy. We take seriously listening for the imaginative calling of the Holy Spirit.

We also share our time and talent in worship. Worship and liturgy are the work of the people. Worship is for God, not for us. It’s a time of lifting our best voice to God, offering praise and gratitude. We welcome all in our congregation, regardless of membership or age, to participate in worship leadership.

The service includes music from soloists, organ accompaniment, bell choir and other special musical offerings. Due to the nature of the pandemic, we have temporarily suspended our Chancel Choir.  Learn more about our music.

Children are always welcome to join us in the sanctuary for the entirety of worship. For those children who wish to participate in Children’s Worship, please join the class outside, prior to worship. Children who attend Children’s worship will rejoin the congregation at the time of offertory, and join us for the message for all Ages and time of prayer.

Due to the pandemic, we have temporarily discontinued our nursery care for children age 4 and under. However, our downstairs nursery or fellowship hall (where we livestream our worship service) is also available for parent use.

Worship FAQs

Our church is located at 210 Melrose Avenue, Tryon, NC, 28782.

Our main parking lot is located across the street from the church. Additional parking is behind the church (there is a sign at the end of the driveway, that leads to the rear parking lot). Several spaces reserved for those with limited mobility can be found in the semi-circle drive in front of the church. Most folks who arrive at the church for worship or church events choose to park in the front parking lot as it’s closer to our entrances.

When standing in front of the church, the church office is located to the left in a building that looks like a house. The part of the building, just to the right of our courtyard, is the sanctuary. Enter through either of the sanctuary doors for worship or to go to events in our fellowship hall.

Community Hour (coffee, punch, and conversation) follows Worship Service at 11:00 AM in the church courtyard, as weather allows.  If weather does not allow, it will be held in the Fellowship Hall as our pandemic protocols permit.

Please help us provide a safe worshiping environment. Please do not attend in-person worship or church events if you are experiencing any symptoms related to Covid-19.

Masks. While masks are optional, for the safety of our community and congregation, as well as your individual health, we strongly urge all those worshipping in person to wear KN95 or N95 masks without respirators, over their nose and mouth, regardless of vaccination status.

Social Distancing. Respect those who wish to maintain social distancing.

Hand Sanitizer.   Hand sanitizer is provided for those who wish to use it.

Enter through either set of sanctuary doors - the front doors up the steps or the left side door off of the circular drive. Greeters and Ushers will welcome you to our church, provide you with a worship bulletin, and help direct you where to go.

Children are always welcome in worship. We understand that for younger worship participants noise and movement are natural. We consider it a joyful noise to God.

There are activity packs, books, and children’s Bibles available at the rear of the Sanctuary for children to use during the service.

Children's Worship is offered for those children, K-5th grades. Please join the class prior to worship. Children who attend Children’s worship will rejoin the congregation at the time of offertory and participate in the remainder of the worship service with their families.

Our downstairs nursery or Fellowship Hall (where we livestream our worship service) is available for parent use.

Our Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Bathrooms, and Church office are accessible. An elevator accesses all four floors of the church. There are accessible entrances in both the front and back of the church. The accessible entrance to the Sanctuary is off of the circular drive to the left of the church. Hearing Assistance devices and large print bulletins are available.

Dress for the service varies from casual to Sunday best. It's all a matter of personal choice. Please come how you are most comfortable and know that you will be welcome.

Communion is offered on the 1st Sunday of the month. This church practices open Communion – all are welcome to receive Communion, including children, and regardless of church membership or denominational affiliation. We use non-alcoholic grape juice and gluten free bread.
