Part-time Minister of Children, Youth, and Families

The Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) in Tryon, NC, is seeking an engaging and compassionate Minister for Children, Youth, and Families. We are eager to welcome someone who loves God and loves working with youth, who can help us live out our vision of creating a community of welcome, inclusion, and vibrant faith for our children, youth and families. An explicit embrace of LGBTQIA+ youth is essential. The scope of this ministry includes pastoral care, curriculum support, support of intergenerational programming and youth group. We anticipate that the majority of hours will be spent providing support and care to our children, youth, and parents, out in the community, meeting them in homes and community spaces. Because this is a new ministry position for us, many of the details will be worked out over time, through experimentation and regular evaluation. We will look to your experience, creativity, insight, and leadership to collaboratively shape this ministry. We welcome candidates from both the United Church of Christ and other denominations, either lay or ordained.

We care a lot about each other, God’s beautiful creation, and what’s happening in the world around us. When we say “you are welcome here,” we mean it. And not because we want to change who you are or cast judgment upon you. We are family-sized congregation that does big things, actively focusing on serving the wider community. We emphasize collaboration, experimentation, and creativity as a congregation, seeking to listen and follow where the Holy Spirit is guiding. The Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon is an Open & Affirming congregation. We recognize that excellent communication and interpersonal skills, boundaries, and creativity, will be essential to this role. You will be encouraged and empowered to introduce new ideas and to bring your own perspective to this ministry. You will collaborate primarily with the Pastor, referring pastoral care appropriately to the pastor when necessary We look forward to supporting you in this ministry.
