Families & Children

A Multi-Generational Community

As vital members of our community, The Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon welcomes children of all ages to participate in worship, faith formation and service. We offer youth programs, a family worship space, weekly children’s curriculum, and other activities and events.

Children's Worship

Children are invited to join us for worship in our sanctuary. We provide weekly activities and curriculum in our sanctuary’s family worship space. Additionally we email out weekly faith formation curriculum, videos, and book suggestions to parents to use at home throughout the week.

Communion

We practice open Communion – all are welcome to receive, including children, and regardless of church membership or denominational affiliation. On the Sunday’s where communion is served (usually the first Sunday of the month), children will come back in at the Offertory to participate in communion with their family.

Confirmation

We offer Confirmation Class every few years for youth who are interested in deepening their commitment to the church. This year-long program allows youth to explore their faith and learn more about our church community and the UCC. At the end of the program, individuals may choose to be confirmed and become members of the congregation.

Jenny's Library

Jenny’s Library is a children’s library located downstairs at the Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon. The library is filled with books that we have used in worship, read for the Kid’s Book Club, or read aloud at storytime. When selecting items of the library we try to pick books that we believe reflect our values as a progressive faith community. Children are welcome to borrow a book to read during worship or take home. We just ask that you bring them back so that others can enjoy them.

Jenny’s Library was started as a gift to the church by the Meeske family in honor of their daughter.

Super Sunday Events

Super Sundays are free events for children and families sponsored by the Roger’s Fund. They are typically scheduled after Sunday morning worship. We eat lunch then go out for an activity together. Examples of Super Sunday events are apple picking, ice skating, bowling, hiking, caroling, and more.

Check out our calendar for more information about upcoming Super Sunday events.

Youth Group

Youth Group is available for 6th through 12th grade students. The group meets on the 4th Sunday of the month. Contact our Minister of Faith Formation, Lindsay Lewis, if your child is interested in participating in youth group events.

Scholarships for Camp

The Board of Faith Formation offers partial scholarships to students from the church who want to attend summer camp at John’s River Valley Camp in Collettsville, NC. John’s River Valley Camp is a UCC affiliated camp that offers week long summer camp experiences for students 3rd grade and up.
